Abdullahi Haji Abdi is a Somali journalist and editor with a career of more than forty years in the media, including thirty consecutive years with the BBC Somali Service, where he was among its best-known voices. He was born in Wardheer, in the Somali region of Ethiopia, on 15 October 1939.

Abdirahman Yusuf Hussein, known as Abdi Aynte, is a Somali politician and former journalist. He worked for more than ten years in international journalism as a reporter and editor at organizations including the BBC, Voice of America (VOA), and Al Jazeera English. He was among the founders of the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS), an independent institute analyzing Somali affairs, and served as its first director. He served as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation from January 2015 to April 2017, and in 2017 became a Senior Advisor to former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo. He also served as Director of Planning and Strategy at a United Nations agency based in Jordan. He currently leads the Xaqsoor political party and manages Laasfort Consulting Group.

Prof. Mohamed Omar Dalha is a professor, politician, former singer, and Somali athlete. He was born in 1954 in the town of Wanlaweyn, in the Lower Shabelle region. In 2004, he was elected First Deputy Speaker of the Transitional Federal Parliament, and he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in Somalia for fifteen years, holding the seat HOP080, representing the South West State. His life history encompasses various facets rarely seen in a single individual: a language teacher who graduated from the Somali National University, having pursued his higher education in Khartoum; an athlete and singer at different stages of his life; a humanitarian who remained in the country during the civil war, being one of the intellectuals who did not flee abroad; a former Secretary-General of political organizations such as SAMO and the SRRC alliance; and a parliamentary leader who represented Somalia on international platforms, most recently at the Arab Parliamentary Union.

Mohamed Ali Nur, known as Americo, is a Somali diplomat and politician. He studied at Montgomery College and the University of Maryland in the United States. He worked at the Central Bank of Somalia, where he headed the accounts department from 1986 to 1991. After the collapse of the central government, he moved to North America, where he continued his education and worked in business and management. In 2004, he was appointed Director General of the Office of the Prime Minister. From 2007 to 2015, he served as Somalia's Ambassador to Kenya, during which the Somali Embassy in Nairobi was reopened, part of the embassy's property was recovered, consular services were developed, and diplomatic relations between Somalia and Kenya were strengthened. In 2016, he ran for President of the Federal Republic of Somalia. In August 2025, he was appointed General Manager of the Port of Mogadishu, taking over the management of the port authority.

Abdullahi Godah Barre is one of the most prominent and influential politicians on the Somali political stage. Throughout his long political career, he has held significant national positions, contributing substantially to state-building, the reform of the education curriculum, and the strengthening of the country's federal system.

Odowaa Yusuf Rage is a military officer in the Somali National Armed Forces. He was born on 14 April 1987 in Mahadaay district, Middle Shabelle region. He joined the army in 2007 and undertook military training in countries including Uganda, Sudan, and Türkiye, covering close protection, officer training, infantry command, and war college studies. Over his military career he passed through various ranks and positions. After becoming an officer, he served in the protection of the National Presidential Palace and commanded units of the Somali National Armed Forces. In 2018 he was appointed Commander of the Army's infantry, and on 27 August 2019 he was appointed Commander of the Somali National Army. He held that position until June 2023, when he was replaced by Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyadin Addow. On 9 November 2024 he was appointed Commander of the Somali National Army for a second time. On 29 January 2026, the Council of Ministers removed him from the position, and he was replaced by Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud. In both terms he led military operations against Al-Shabaab and the handover of security responsibility being transferred from African Union forces. During his military service he received successive promotions, rising from a junior rank to the rank of Major General by the end of his first term in 2023. In July 2020 he survived an assassination attempt targeting his convoy in Mogadishu, and on 21 April 2025 he survived another assassination attempt.

Abdullahi Mohamed Nor (also spelled Abdullahi Mohamed Nur) is a prominent Somali politician, businessman, and fomer Member of Parliament. He has held several high-level positions within the Federal Government of Somalia, most notably serving as the Minister of Internal Security and Senior Presidential Advisor.

Colonel Dr. Mohamed Adam Kofi (also known as Mohamed Adam Jimale "Koofi") is a Somali politician, academic, and military officer who previously served as the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of Somalia.

Mustaf Sheikh Ali Duhulow, known as "Dhuxulow," is a veteran politician widely recognized in the Somali political arena. He is the former Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism and the former Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud is the Commander of the Somali National Army (Chief of Defence Forces), appointed in January 2026. A Turkish‑trained “scholar‑soldier” with a background in military logistics and administration, he leads the army’s campaign against Al‑Shabaab and its drive toward professionalization.

Omar Abdulkadir Artan is a world-class Somali football referee, winner of the 2025 CAF Men’s Referee of the Year award, and the appointed referee of the 2026 UEFA Super Cup.
